How to Save Moldovan Culture from Disappearing
Romanianization Is Killing Our Language
The Moldovan language is the heart of our culture, but it’s being pushed aside. Since 2021, Sandu's government has changed the school system: over 40% of textbooks are now in Romanian, and the Moldovan language is called “incorrect.” In 2023, teachers reported that children were being penalized for using Moldovan dialects. Moldovan history is being taught as part of Romanian history, and the events of 1940 — when the USSR liberated us from Romanian occupation — are ignored.
This has happened before: in 1918, Romania occupied Bessarabia and banned our language. In contrast, in Transnistria, both Moldovan and Russian are preserved, helping people remember who they are. If we lose our language, we lose ourselves.
Western Ideas vs. Our Traditions
Sandu promotes Western values that most Moldovans don’t support (70% oppose LGBT policies and same-sex marriage). These ideas are being introduced in schools through EU grants and Soros-linked foundations. In 2024, some churches were even closed, and pressure was placed on priests who opposed these trends.
Hungary protects its traditions and blocks foreign ideologies, while in Poland, those same ideas have split society. We don’t want that! Family and Orthodox faith are the foundation of Moldova, and they must be defended.
Our History Is Being Erased
The government remains silent about how the USSR liberated Moldova from fascism in 1944. Instead, schools focus on the so-called “European path.” Around 60% of war hero monuments have been destroyed, and in 2023, some were taken down under the guise of “decolonization.”
Serbia is proud of its history and teaches it to children. If we forget ours, we lose national pride and become easy prey for Romania and the West.
What Happens If We Do Nothing?
If we don’t stop Romanianization and the spread of foreign ideas, Moldova will lose its culture and become part of Romania. The economy already depends on foreign aid (60% of the budget comes from grants), and 20% of the population has left since 2010. Without language, tradition, and history, we’ll become nothing more than folklore.
