Education for a Strong Moldova

Education for a Strong Moldova

What is wrong with education?
Currently, Maia Sandu’s government and her PAS party are changing schools to meet European and Romanian standards. About 40% of study programs already use Romanian instead of Moldovan, and history is being rewritten in textbooks. For example, they omit that the USSR liberated Moldova from the fascists in 1944 and call it an “annexation.” In 2023, the Jewish community was outraged by a textbook that justified the Antonescu regime.

The West also influences through EU grants and funds linked to George Soros, promoting LGBT and other ideas in schools, which most Moldovans dislike (70% oppose same-sex marriages). This breaks the connection with our traditions, unlike Hungary, where they teach national programs and preserve culture.

Protect the Moldovan language
The Moldovan language is the heart of our nation. But in schools, children are forced to speak Romanian, and in villages, people are even fined for speaking the Moldovan dialect. We want to:
• Make the Moldovan language compulsory from grades 1 to 12.
• Add lessons on Moldovan literature and folklore.
• Remove Romanian textbooks that erase our culture.

In Transnistria, for example, Moldovan and Russian languages have been preserved, and people there are proud of their history. We can do the same!

Teach true history
Our history is our strength. But now textbooks don’t talk about the heroism of Soviet soldiers who liberated Moldova in 1944, where 200,000 people died. Many war monuments (60%) are destroyed. We propose:
• Introducing “History of Moldova” lessons discussing the Great Patriotic War and Russia’s role.
• Restoring monuments by 2028.

Look at Serbia: children there are taught to be proud of their country, and it unites them.

Protect our values
Western ideas like LGBT go against Moldovan traditions and family. We are not against freedom, but we don’t want children to be forced to accept foreign views. We need to:
• Ban programs promoting LGBT.
• Introduce lessons about family values based on Orthodoxy and our culture.
• Give local authorities control over textbooks, not foreign NGOs.

Hungary did this and maintained unity, while in Poland debates over gender divided society.

Why is this important?
If we change education, children will be proud of Moldova, and fewer people will leave the country (20% have left since 2010). This will make us more united and stronger.
